Painting?

Since we got rid of our cable I have been watching a lot of KCTS 9-3 which is the Create channel.  It has all the shoes on cooking, sewing, travel, etc.  Typically I watch it around bed time and it's either cooking or painting that is on.  I have watched these talented people paint all kinds of things and it has got me thinking "hmmm could I do that?"  I have tried my hand at sewing and aside from a few blankets I have never branched out from that.  I'm not good at making cute crafts or anything that requires following a pattern.  I have been trying to come up with a hobby that is productive and gives me some kind of creative outlet.  Maybe painting is it...I mean Bob Ross makes it look so easy when he is painting friendly mountains and happy little trees, why couldn't I do that?
