Tyson John Keenan

We had somewhat of an unexpected surprise last week.  Tyson decided that he was going to make his appearance three full weeks early.  I went in for my normal weekly check up with my OB on Thursday the 22nd and went through all the normal steps.  Everything looked fine with nothing out of the ordinary, I had dilated some and was on my way to having a baby.  I was thinking I had at LEAST two more weeks if not more.  I went back to work that day and packed my office up, just in case.  I was planning on taking Friday to do laundry, clean my house, get Tyson's room ready all of that fun stuff.  After baking cookies Thursday evening I went to bed feeling nothing out of the ordinary.  At 2am I woke up to use the bathroom and as soon as I stood up my water broke.  I could not believe it!  I went back and forth between our bed and the computer for a good half an hour trying to determine whether or not I was crazy of if my water really had broken.  Finally around 2:30 I woke Terence up and told him my water had broken.  He asked me a couple of questions and when I told him the baby would have to be born within 24 hours he high fived me.  Tax deduction baby!  Woohoo!  I called the hospital to see what I should do and when I told them my water had broken and this was my third baby they told us to come right in.  I called my parents to see if they could meet us as the hospital to watch the boys and I texted my sister (who was at my parents house) to tell her my water had broken.  We had planned since the day I found out I was pregnant that she would be there for this birth.  She got into town on the 22nd and this was the morning of the 23rd.  Could not have been better timing!  We got to the hospital and they admitted me right away.  Once I got to my room they did all the normal things, checked my vitals, started an IV and because I was not having contractions on my own they started me on pitocin.
When we first got to the hospital we had the MOST amazing nurse ever!  She was really nice and super fun.  She was giggling with my sister and I and even helped us put together a baby poll of what time we thought Tyson would be born and how much we thought he would weigh.  My guess was 10:30am and 7 lbs 2 oz.
My labor was relatively uneventful except that the pitocin made the contractions really hard and where my original plan had been to do this naturally I knew that was not going to happen once the real labor started.  Around 10:15am I told my nurse that I was feeling  a lot of pressure so the nurse checked me and I was dilated to a 7, not even five minutes later I told her I was really feeling it so she checked again and I was at a 9 so she called my doctor down.  By the time he got there I was doing everything in my power not to push.  Once they gave me the go ahead to push it was really fast and Tyson John Keenan was born at 10:29am (I won the poll)  He was 6 lbs, 5 oz and 19.5 inches long.
It was awesome having my Mom, Terence's Mom and my sister there!  They were great at coaching me through everything and it was nice to have the extra support.  One of the coolest things was literally a minute after Tyson was born I was holding him and he heard Terence's voice and his head snapped to attention looking for him.  It's been love ever since!  Tyson LOVES his Daddy and I'm pretty sure his daddy loves him too.  He's been a pretty laid back baby as well which is good since we have had kind of a whirlwind couple of days.  Tyson came home on Christmas Eve and we made the rounds on Christmas day.  Today is the first full day that we have at him with no visitors, no trips to make, noting to do but enjoy and adjust to our new normal.
We feel incredibly blessed to have Tyson in our lives!  The last week or so has been a crazy one in the Keenan house but we know that our Father in Heaven is looking out for us.  We could not ask for more!

P.S. I will post some pictures on my next blog since this one ended up being longer then I thought it would.
